This article explains what cutouts are, when to use them, and how to add them to items.
Overview
A cutout is an additional geometry that allows an item to visually cut into another item when placed together.
Without cutouts, items placed together would visually overlap.
Use cases

| Sinks | Sit flush on worktops or bathroom vanities |
| Built-in appliances | Ovens that sit flush on cabinetry panels |
| Doors and windows | Structural items that cut into walls |
| Faucets | Cut through worktops |

How cutouts work
A cutout requires:
- Main geometry – the visible 3D model of the item
- Detail geometry – the cutout template with classification

Adding a cutout to an item
Steps
- Open the item in Authoring Hub
Go to Geometries
- Upload the main geometry
In Details tab, click Add property
- Enter property's name
- Upload the cutout geometry
Set the detailType to cutOut Template
Viewing cutouts in 3D Viewer
Once a cutout is added, the 3D Viewer displays a checkbox to toggle the cutout visibility.
