Different ways to add items into a catalog
Starter Flow
Adding existing items from Starter Catalog.
From the UI, click on + Add Item.
Select one or more items using CTRL or SHIFT and click on Use x templates.
Then the items will be located in the folder that you selected, inside Items.
Items added from this flow will:
- Copy the item from the Starter catalog;
- Copy attributes defined in Starter Catalog (Today we copy all the attributes, we don’t evaluate if it’s used in the item or in the options);
- Copy materials, if the item has a geometry and materials assigned to the layers of the geometry;
- Copy catalog dependencies;
- Not copy the Features and Options;
- Not copy featureRefs;
- Not copy the Restrictions (since we don’t copy F&O);
- Not copy restrictionRefs
- Other data defined on the item will be copied as the Starter.
NOTE: similar flow happens for the features, when the author is adding a feature, we will copy it from the starter but without any of the options. The author will add the options according to the needs.
You may create a folder to organize them. Can find more information on how to create groups and edit them at How to create and edit groups
Copy from other catalog
Ways to copy items from a read only catalog.
From the Editor, you can open another catalog to review or copy the data.
Internal authors can see all the catalogs.
External authors should only see their own manufacturer catalogs and system catalogs (current feature that we are developing).
Click on + sign next to the already opened catalog.
Select the catalog version you want.
Copy and Paste
Select the items using the checkbox, right-click, and click to copy. This action will exhibit the same functionality of copying the data.
To paste the copied item we have two options:
-
Paste here
-
Subitems, Features and Options, Attributes, Dependencies, Materials, IF the item depends on those things to work, they will be copied. EVERYTHING related to that item will be copied.
-
-
Paste Special
- Needs to respect the selection
-
If Features and Options are flagged, they need to contain the attributes and materials referenced.
Add Items to View
Instead of copy and paste, you can just click on Add x items to view.
Drag and drop
You can only drag and drop an item to copy from a read only catalog to an editable catalog. This action should have the same effect as copy and paste here.
Duplicate
Click on the item, right-click and on "Duplicate". As the term suggests, this is a duplicate of an item; it will copy all of the data associated with the item.
Catalog View / Target Market
This flow happens from the Dependencies browser and it’s not about copying the data, it’s creating a new item as an itemRef.
On the three dots, search for Add Catalog Dependencies Browser, and click.
This will open a new tab that you can drag to the right side of your screen and drop, to separate the two catalogs.
After click on Add dependency catalog and choose the one you want.
From the Dependency browser you can select the items and click Add x items to view
Should create new itemRefs in the select group in the editor, where the code will be the same as the dependency catalog, and the itemRef will be the dependency catalog.
Drag and drop
Same behavior as Read Only Catalog.
Or instead of selecting items, you can dragging a group and releasing in Items.
TODAY: we only support dragging groups into the ITEMS (root) we don’t support dragging into another group to create the structure.
From Scratch
Adding items from scratch.
Click on + Add Item.
After on Create items from scratch.
On this window you can edit the Name that you want for the item, and the code will be generated automatically.
Or, if you need, you can click on the lock, to be able to edit the code, to finalize click on Create Item
Note: When creating an item, enable Propagate from Code to automatically copy the code value to the Name field. Fields remain editable after propagation.
To found the new item click on Items on the left tab.
