Authoring Hub - Map to template: adding graphical data to items

This article explains how to use the Map to Template action to add graphical data to items by matching them with template catalog items based on classification.

The Map to Template action automatically matches classified items with template items from a starter catalog and copies their graphical data (attributes and subitems) to the target items.

Items must be well classified before running Map to Template.

In case items are not classified:

1. Open Authoring Command Runner

   

2. Execute the RefineClassificationCommand

   

3. Verify that classification is correct for all items
4. Save changes

Using Map to Template

Step 1: Select items

1. Select the items to add graphical data to
2. Click Actions
3. Select Map to templates

Step 2: Choose match type

The system calculates a match score (percentage) based on how many criteria match. The system will ask to choose a matching method.

No strict match

• Shows matches below 95% as well
• Provides more options, but requires more manual verification

Strict match

• Shows only matches with 95% or higher match score
• Provides fewer results, but with higher confidence

Select the preferred option and click Continue.

Step 3: Review matches

The interface displays three columns:

Column 1: Target item

Shows the item created (blank item without graphical data) with its code, name, description and characteristics.

Column 2: Suggested templates

Lists matching template items from the starter catalog:

• Multiple templates may match with different scores
• The template with the highest match score is pre-selected
• Scroll to view all available matches

Column 3: Selected template details

Shows details (item definition, code, name, description and characteristics) of the currently selected template. 

Step 4: Verify or change selection

If system selection is correct:

• The pre-selected template is highlighted
• Review the details in Column 3
• If correct, proceed to the next item

If manual selection is needed:

1. Review other matching templates in Column 2
2. Click on a different template to view its details
3. Compare characteristics with the target item
4. Select the correct template
5. Click Confirm Selection (checkbox appears when confirmed) 

Note: Even if multiple templates have 100% match scores, they may not all be suitable (e.g., some may include accessories or have different configurations). Always verify the selection.

Step 5: Handle "to match" items

Items listed under "To Match" require manual selection as the system could not find a match and didn't select a template. 

Step 6: Accept changes

Once all items have verified templates:

1. Click Accept Changes
2. The system will display a warning if any items remain unmatched
3. Click Continue to apply changes
4. Graphical data (attributes and subitems) will be copied to the target items

Step 7: Save changes

After accepting changes, save the catalog to make the graphical data permanent.

Match score and selection

Understanding match scores

• 100% match: All mandatory criteria match
• 95% or higher: Strong match (recommended for strict mode)
• Below 95%: Weaker match (review carefully)

Multiple 100% matches

Even when multiple templates show 100% match:

• They may have different configurations (e.g., with/without accessories)
• They may be specialized types (e.g., ADA cabinets)
• Always review the description and characteristics to select the correct one
