The process of creating a new item is described in the article How to add items into a catalog, under the From Scratch section. This provides step-by-step instructions for creating a blank item with no predefined information. The following sections explain how to populate the item with all necessary data.
Once the blank item is created, you can begin editing its properties.
Double-clicking an item opens a new window where its properties can be edited. Below the item code, several tabs are available for editing different aspects of the item.
Definition
To edit a field, click on it and enter the required information. When you click outside the field after editing, it will appear in bold to indicate the change. In the Definition section, you can edit multiple categories, including name fields such as Name and Description.
baseItemType in Classification section is an attribute that can be added to a feature to classify its primary purpose or nature.
Please refer to the Item Classification Format document to know the characteristics of the item and classify it correctly.
Subitems
Subitems define how an item is assembled or structured from component parts. To add a subitem, it must already exist — create it first if needed.
To add a subitem, go to the Subitems tab and click + Add a subitem.
Then specify its itemRef and define position, dimension, orientation and attributes if required. For syntax rules, see this article.
Dimensions
You can configure the item to be resizable by setting default values and ranges (min to max) for width, height, and depth in the appropriate fields.
Geometries
To edit the geometries of an item, go to the Geometries tab. Here you can edit the item's layers and their URIs.
The URI points to the actual 3D geometry or texture files that need to be loaded and rendered.
To update the layers and change its material, follow these steps:
- Open the Layers section and click + Add a value.
- Open the 3D Authoring Viewer (for detailed instructions, see this article).
- In the 3D Authoring Viewer, open the Layers panel by clicking the arrow on the right side (1).
-
Copy the required layer name (2).
- Paste the layer name into the layerName field.
- Add the materialRef of the required material to the appropriate field.
Note: The material must already exist in the catalog. For instructions on creating materials, see this article.
Pricing
If the item requires pricing, it must have a refCode assigned.
