During its life cycle a catalog will have different statuses. These are shown in the Status column on the tabs within Content Studio. This article lists the statuses and what they mean.
Status Types
In Progress – This status indicates that an Author is working on a version of the catalog. Only Authors see In Progress versions on the Author tab. All other statuses are greyed out indicating that they are in control of the Publisher.
Ready – This status is set by the Author and indicates a version where the authoring is complete. The Ready status is visible to the Publisher on the Publisher tab. A version in the Ready status can be used by the publisher for testing before activating it for all users.
Activated – This status is set by the Publisher and indicates the version is available to all the countries and products specified in the catalog container, unless an access rule is set. If an access rule is set, then it is only available to those defined by the access rules.
Note: if a catalogue has the activated status and you try and delete it a warning message will pop up stating that activated versions cannot be deleted.
Deactivated – This status is set by the Publisher and indicates the version was once activated, but has now been removed from access in all countries and all products specified in the catalog container. Deactivated versions still remain on the cloud, and can be reactivated if necessary.
IMPORTANT: If you try to deactivate a catalog that has other catalog versions dependent on it (ie dependents), you will receive a warning message. If you wish to see the dependents, close the warning message and, under the Actions column, click on the more options button then select View dependents. Under the more options button you can also select dependencies to find out if a catalogue has dependencies on another version.

NOTE: Once activated, a version can toggle between Activated and Deactivated as necessary.
Below is an example of a catalog version moving through its life cycle:
- The content Author works on the catalog until it is complete for the manufacturer to review.
- The Author sets the status of the version to Ready.
- The version appears on the Publish tab with the status Ready to allow the Publisher to review and make it available for applications to use it from the cloud.
- To test the version, the Publisher sets access rules in Content Studio, to make that version visible to only the tester(s) in the desired application and then activates the catalog.
- The tester(s) see and test the version using the desired application.
- Once the version is tested and ready for general release, the Publisher deactivates the version, removes the testing access rules and sets others if necessary; then reactivates the version.
- The version appears to everyone that has access to the catalog.
